Dr. Daniel Barry is a composer, music director and trumpet player. His music combines elements from classical, jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian music traditions.
His compositions have been performed by the Seattle Wind Symphony, the Cascade Symphony and the Northwest Girl Choir. He’s written over 50 published compositions for Jazz Orchestra that are performed by professional and student ensembles worldwide.
Daniel is a Fulbright Scholar and has received honors from the American Prize in Composstion, Artist Trust, 4Culture, Seattle City Arts, and the Visby International Centre for Composers.
Daniel has composed music for theatre productions at ACT Theater in Seattle, the Milwaukee Rep., La Mama, NY., and the Ensemble Theater Project in Santa Barbara, CA.
He lives in Port Townsend, Washington where he writes and performs as often as possible. Daniel has numerous recordings on Origin Records, Origin Classical, OA2, Arsis, Moonjune, BopCop, Emerald Cityand Pony Boy Records. His compositions are published by the Theodore Presser Company, Walrus Music Publications and Daniel Barry Publications.
Dr. Barry holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Music Composition from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
